2015 1oz CHINA PANDA – BAO BAO OFFICIAL PANDA ISSUE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION SILVER

PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO

This commemorative Silver Medal celebrates the birth of one of the most endangered species in the world, the Giant Panda. Named Bao Bao, meaning precious or treasure, the female panda was born in August 2013 at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. This 2015 Smithsonian Medal, with a mintage of 25,000, is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver by the Shenzhen Guobao Mint, and measures 40 mm in diameter.
Remarkable detailed imagery.
The reverse depicts Bao Bao, the young giant panda, as she climbs a wall in her home at the National Zoo. She is surrounded by multiple leaves and stalks of bamboo; framed with the inscriptions “BABY GIANT PANDA BAO BAO AT NATIONAL ZOO,” “1 oz AG .999,” and the name Bao Bao written in Chinese characters.
The obverse features two images enclosed in overlapping circular frames; the Smithsonian Castle in Washington D.C., and an incredibly detailed illustration of the Great Wall of China. Within the frosted background, “SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION” appears in English and in Chinese characters, with the year “2015.”
Stunning, proof quality Silver Medal.
